If I had $1,000 to spend to invest in a business wardrobe, here are the pieces I’d choose.
1. 3 piece herringbone suit: Ann Taylor
jacket ($288) + skirt ($98) + pants ($128) = $514

2. Pinstriped suit: Ann Taylor, jacket ($228) + pants ($128) = $356 total

4. Crisp white shirt: Banana Republic, $58
5. Sweater: cashmere, v-neck, Banana Republic, $128
I guess I love blacks and greys.

Love your picks, not too far off from what I would pick if I could fit into the clothes, especially the dress! It would be awesome to be able to build *that* wardrobe in under $500, though. Anyone up for the challenge??
Isn’t $2000 a bit too much? I mean I would raise my eyebrows if my wife were to ask for something like that.
I guess it depends on your finances and your place at work.
A classic wardrobe deserves investment, and so I think $2,000 is reasonable… IF you have the funds for it. I certainly don’t suggest credit cards!
true story,
A friend was stationed in korea for the us army.
She found out about custom tailored suits that’s fairly common there. She got her hands on a Jrew catalog, and had just about every tailored to her size in korea. Think she spent more than 2000, but she got just about the whole catalog.
Break it down to 10 items, and that’s quite a savings
I like the dress, but I just don’t know how well it would hold up over time. I’d swap the dress for a classic hip-length camel hair coat.
Similar to this one, but hip-length b/c I look ridiculous in long coats:
