Easy – eating out, home decor, and shopping. I’m a little embarassed that they’re so cliché.
There are a couple of blogs that I like to read – but they are “break the budget” blogs. Closettherapy is written by a young woman living the stylish life in Beverly Hills. She always have great posts about fashion, makeup, shoes, and sales. For example, I found out that there’s a sale going with a pair of Chloe cream flats for 50% off. Unfortunately, 50% off $325 is still more than I should spend on shoes.
Another blog I love is Apartmenttherapy, a home design site. Everytime I look at it I feel inspired to decorate my future apartment in a such a way that makes it worthy to be shown on the site. I know that great design doesn’t have to be expensive, but still. Whereas before I didn’t care much about mismatched linens or bare walls (I’m a college student – it’s allowed), now I do. And caring costs money.

These are, in general, vices of mine as well. I’ve found, however, that after graduating and embarking on the process of building a post-college life (and watching my friends do the same), these things have relinquished some of their hold on me. I still budget liberally for clothes, but I don’t fancy myself some impeccable New York ingenue at this point in my life—I see how I really live, and how my coworkers really dress for work, and how my friends’ apartments really look, and I am comforted as regards my own somewhat uninspiring home decor and comparatively low-end wardrobe. I will tell you, though, that the best-decorated apartments I’ve seen amongst my friends are also the smallest—it’s WAY easier to dress up a studio than a two-bedroom (I actually have a pretty decent amount of space).
Lest I made myself sound too virtuous, there, it should be mentioned that I often consider starting an ING subaccount for a Marc Jacobs bag, and may actually do it come January.
English Major – I came thisclose to getting a Gucci handbag once, it was on sale for $350 and so beautiful! But then I came to my senses after I realized that I really can’t spend $350 on a purse when I make $8 an hour on work-study.
You may have not intended to do so, but I think you’ve managed to express the state of mind that lots of individuals are in. The sense of wanting to assist, but not knowing how or wherever, is something a lot of us are going via.
