A fluff ‘n fold laundry service will stop by my apartment tomorrow morning.
Laundry is one of my least favorite household activities. So while sending laundry out is definitely a luxury ($1.50 per pound), it is one which I appreciate, deeply.
Do you outsource any household chores?

I don’t outsource anything yet, but some day, I would love to outsource cleaning. My apartment attracts dust like no other.
I do all my own cleaning and laundry. Some stuff goes to the dry cleaners. I want to get a maid to come clean a few times a month, but I really don’t trust anybody around my things. Plus i’m such a perfectionist, if I end up finding dust, or the tub isn’t sparkling, i’ll feel like i’ve wasted my money.
i do not at this time. I will again have a maid and maybe a cook if i can afford it at some point in my life. i hate cooking, shopping for food, and cleaning. they are all the banes of my existance!
at one point in one of my moves, the landlord that i was renting a tiny room in a house from had a maid that came every week. She cleaned everything (even the fridge) every week and did all of our laundry (AND FOLDED IT).
i probably stayed in that tiny room longer than i should have, and it was all because of that maid…she also taught me more Spanish than I knew before and we had great convos about her life back in Mexico…
No, but I’d love to have a cleaner in once a month or so. I wouldn’t mind having a personal chef either:)
At the mo we’re reduced to going to the laundromat since our washing machine broke. I find our clothes come out much nicer….I don’t know why though, maybe their machines are gentler or the water is softer?
I have a guy cut the grass in my yard. I have a small hill, and it’s SO hard to cut. That is my little luxury, but he’s raised his prices every year, so this year, I may have to find a CB for myself to do it. hee hee.
No. I kind of .. don’t have much to do in household chores that would make me outsource anything
I sort of like folding laundry and putting it away
which reminds me, I have to iron BF’s shirts today.
I hate laundry, but I also hate cleaning the bathroom and I’m not a fan of vacuuming either.
I’ve never weighed my laundry, but roughly how much does, say, 2 loads run? Can you guess?
Not yet, but someday…
My Mom took a maid a few years ago. At first, I hated having a stranger in the house. But Mom was much less stressed, and so were we when she stopped looking under our beds!
If you hate a chore, or worse, are going to argue with your loved ones about it, then I’m definitely for outsourcing. It’s not laziness if you’re paying for it with money you’ve earned.
I had a cleaning service come in every two weeks for three months while on maternity leave. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!!!!!!! They did a WONDERFUL job and I will have them back in to do a deep Spring Clean (I am a neat freak).
Fo those uncomfortable with having strangers in their home:
* Use someone who is insured and stay on the premises (and out of their way — I stayed in my basement family room while they did the upper two levels).
* Don’t give them a key!! IF you leave, let them in and then return in an hour or two.
Another tip, stay away from the franchises. Open up your yellow pages and find a local service (an/or ask around for recommendations).
Its the best kept secret — and was well worth the $65 fee. My time is worth more than that (it would take me over 4+ hours to do the work, whereas with a crew of 3 people it took them 1.5 hours!!!
I had a house cleaner for a while when my back problem (I have AS) inhibited me from doing chores myself. Now that I’m starting to feel better I can take it on myself. Not that the ability to do chores is normally something to smile about, but for me it’s a sign of freedom!
How much does the laundry set you back? $1.50 per pound must add up very quickly!
This “fluff n’ fold” service… do they just fold? That’s right up my alley. I have no problem with running it all through the machines, but I hate, hate, hate folding and putting away. Most of the time, the clean clothes stay in the hamper and I pick out of there until it’s time to do another load.
I would have someone do my dishes, too, and unload the dishwasher. I love cooking, but I hate cleaning up afterwards.
I get my groceries delivered, but that’s not a luxury per se. It’s only $6.95 per order and I figure the time it’d take me to walk to the grocery store, pick out items and walk 5 blocks back home it worth way more than $6.95. (I don’t have a car and live in a walking neighborhood).
I’m not opposed to other people outsourcing laundry, but I don’t like people touching my dirty clothes. It’s just a thing I have.
I have a gardner twice a month. I just can’t maintain the house and the huge garden. I don’t outsource anything indoors except for things that I may hurt myself doing such as moulding on the 18 foot ceilings
As we speak, I have a contractor that I’ve known for a few years and really trust doing stucco repair, painting the front balcony (again, it’s high and I may really have an injury if I had attempted it), and also doing some re-wiring of outdoor lighting for security and efficiency (green bulbs, not to worry!)
After hard days at the office, I actually enjoy the house tasks, except dusting!!
I hate chores but I’m too cheap to pay someone else to do them. To me laundry service or a maid and gardener are for when I’m rich, and I’m certainly not rich yet. How much does a week’s worth of laundry cost?
oh man, I didn’t even know fluff and fold services existed! Laundry is my most hated chore, and I would totally pay for this if I could convince my bf that it was worth it.
My mom always (since the time I was about 5) had a cleaning lady come to the house, and my dad has “a guy” come and mow the lawn, but we don’t outsource anything ourselves.
I take my “hand wash only” clothes to the cleaners. They hand wash them for me, and they STEAM them so they look great!
I used to have a cleaning service and I’m seriously considering calling them back. I tell you, when I had one I thought I was just wasting my money because my house never looked like it needed that much cleaning. Now that I stopped the service, I understand why it looked like that – because they were doing their freakin job!!! LOL. I clean, I can’t stand a dirty home, but I don’t enjoy it that much. I don’t mind the surface cleaning, it’s when I have to dust the vents, clean the baseboards, clean behind the fridge and stove, wash the windows, etc, etc … that’s the stuff I’d be more than happy to outsource.
My house comes with gardening service so its nice to have but not something I pay for.
I have someone come in once a week to do the whole house including laundry.
I’ve done fluff and fold before at a very nice cleaners (fyi its cheaper if you drop it off yourself) but honestly it has the hospital like smell b/c they use industrial detergent, i.e. if you want to have your dark jeans stay dark don’t send them there.
P.S. I worked at a drycleaners many moons ago.
I LOVE “wash-dry-and-fold” services. Here in Boston there’s a place right around the corner that only charges $.85 per lb if you drop it off yourself. You can bring your own detergent.
It does add up quickly, though. For about a month’s worth of laundry (not including sheets or towels), I pay around $45. They will even not dry my not-dry-ables! And they have yet to lose a sock, something I manage to do every time I launder.
However. I rarely avail myself of their services, because it is cheaper to do it myself. And I can wash my towels and sheets and rugs. It’s a good place to cut back funds.
I don’t use this service every week or even every month. Once every 3-4 months is more like it.
Depending on how much laundry (and what type, i.e. denim will cost more because it’s heavier) you go through a week… I’d say maybe $10-$15 per week for one person?
