*Inspired by listening to country songs while working late
**I know, many people don’t like country music. To those, I ask, whyyy?
1. Troubadour (George Strait) – “Sometimes I feel like Jesse James, still trying to make a name. Knowing nothing’s change, what I am. I was a young troubadour when I rode in on a song. I’ll be an old troubadour, when I’m gone.”
2. Startin’ With Me (Jake Owen) – “I let a woman that I loved slip through my fingers, chalked another dumb move up to my foolish pride. I wasn’t there standing by the bed, when the preacher bowed his head. With the family, the day my grandma died.”
3. Every Time I Hear Your Name (Keith Anderson) – “I know I can’t go back, but I still go back. There we are, parked down by the riverside. And I’m in your arms, about to make love for first time. And that’s all it takes. And I’m in that place. Every time I hear your name.”
4. As Good As I Once Was (Toby Keith) – “I ain’t as good as I once was. I’ve got a few years on me now. But there was a time, back in my prime, when I can really lay it down. If you need some love tonight, then I might have just enough. I ain’t as good as I once was, but I’m as good once as I ever was.”
5. Picture (Kid Rock ft. Sheryl Crow) – “I’ve been waiting on you for a long time, fueling up on heartaches and cheap wine, I ain’t heard from you in three damn nights. I put your picture away. I wonder where you’ve been. I can’t look at you while I’m lying next to him.”
6. I Wonder (Kellie Pickler) – “Oh I hear the weather’s nice in California. There are sunny skies as far as the eye can see. If you ever come back home to Carolina, I wonder what you’d say to me.”
What’re your favorite country songs? Add a snippet of the lyrics too, if you don’t mind.

I grew up listening to country (among other things) but don’t recognize any of these songs — they must be relatively recent? My first concert ever was Tim McGraw
They are all cheesy, but here is a few
Back where I come from, Kenney Chesney (This makes me a little homesick and nostalgic!)
It’s a Great Day to Be Alive, travis tritt
Standing outside the fire, garth brooks
This one’s for the girls, martina mcbride.
Hmm, i could list more. Now I’m inspired to go to itunes and download some new country stuff.
I think people who say they don’t like country are afraid of being classified as a hick. If they would give it a chance, there are some great songs!
I am recently in serious like with “when we went out last night” Kenny Chesney
and “people are crazy” Jason Aldean
and “Cowgirls don’t cry” Brooks and Dunn (It makes me cry, fair warning)
I’ve been on Pandora country station alllll week
i LOVE COUNTRY!!!
Ooh, two come to mind:
- “Friends in Low Places,” by Garth Brooks (Because I know every damn word of that song and will not hesitate to belt it out when it plays at a bar.):
“And I saw the surprise and the fear in his eyes when I took his glass of champagne. I toasted you, said honey we may be through, but you’ll never hear me complain”
- “Jesus Take the Wheel,” by Carrie Underwood (I like this song ironically, because the lyrics are just so earnest. Impossible not to make fun of, regardless of your religious beliefs.): Come on:
“Fifty miles to go and she was running low on faith and gasoline”
- Just a tip: “Picture” makes for an AMAZING karaoke duet. There’s a sort of faux-gravity to the song, and you can sing “to” your male counterpart, which makes it quite lovely.
Taylor Swift’s Love Story of course. The lyrics are awful. It’s just catchy.
Hate hate hate MOST country.
I just don’t like the drawling style…
I can stand it, I just don’t actively want to listen to it or pick it to play
With that being said.. I do like SOME country that isn’t really considered country???
LeAnn Rimes – Blue
“blueeeee oh blueee… I’m so lonesome.. lonesome for you”
There’s also another song.. something about saving a horse and riding a cowboy instead?
“SAVE A HORSE! RIDE A COWBOY”…
Shania Twain music is okay too.
That’s it.
Carrying Your Love With Me- George Straight
I’m carrying your love with me, West Virginia down to Tennesee, I’ll be resting where the good Lord speaks, carrying your love with me, It’s my strength for holding on, every minute that I had to be cause, I’ll have everything I’ll ever need, Carrying your love with me.
I know, I’m corny.
I Hope You Dance – by Leeann Womack.
It’s such an inspiring song. I listen to it when I am having a bad day and it usually cheers me up.
My favorite line in the song:
“I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean. Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens. Promise me you’ll give faith a fighting chance and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance. “
LOVE Keith Urban – especially God’s Been Good to Me – definitely makes you feel thankful about your life.
Also, Alberta Bound – I’m from Alberta and this one makes me almost cry.
The Judds–anything (I saw them in the late 80s with my dad–can you believe Alan Jackson OPENED for them? His 1st album had just come out)
“All my exes live in Texas, and that’s why I hang my hat in Tennessee!”
Reba McEntire–Fancy
Hank Williams Jr–Country Boy Can Survive and Family Tradition. I’m from the South and so I love “We say yes, and we say ma’am and if you ain’t into that, we don’t give a dam*”
I mainly like it more old-school, like Merle Haggard, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, et al.
Randy Travis, pretty much any song.
LOVE Emmylou Harris and Loretta Lynn, old and new stuff.
Also Tanya Tucker’s new covers album is amazing!
Also All My Exes Live in Texas by George Strait. I’m from Tennessee originally and my long-term ex BF lives in Houston now, so it just fits.
Hah, I would have never guessed you liked country from reading your posts!
I definitely agree that most people are afraid of the hick image. I know a girl who likes many country songs but won’t admit to liking country lol.
I’m a big fan of Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and Carrie Underwood. I particularly like Last Name by her as it goes against her image so much.
Taylor Swift is incredibly talented although most of the songs seemed to be written for a different audience than me.
Trace Adkins has a ton of great songs. I think my favorite, though, was Honky Tonk Badonkadonk haha.
Lately I have had Billy Currington’s song People are Crazy stuck in my head…”God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy”
That’s my favorite song by Brooks & Dunn. Listening to it right now.
“cowgirls don’t cry, ride baby ride…”
Listening to Also All My Exes Live in Texas right now.
