Is that you can make a dish full of expensive ingredients, and STILL have the cost come out to be much much much lower than a restaurant’s.
Exhibit A: this morning I made an omelet stuffed with smoked salmon and an entire half of an avocado, and topped with more avocado and a generous handful of crumbled goat cheese.

It. Was. Delicious. And probably cost me less than $3.

I think I am losing weight mostly because I have comitted to cooking at home with more whole ingredients. One of my secrets to sucess is only going to the grocery store for meats and dairy. I have a very, very small list there. Then I have a HUGE list for my fresh fruit/veggie market. It has made me focus more on the veggies/fruits in my diet versus the meat/cheese!
yum!!
Yum-o…as Rachel Ray says. I’d like to grab a fork and dig right in. The avocado looks so tempting.
Hmm…I’m surprised you were able to make that for just $3! Smoked salmon is almost always expensive.
@SeeJaneGetRich – thanks for visiting my blog.
I calculated it this way: 1 oz smoked salmon ($1-$1.25), 1/2 avocado ($0.50), 2 eggs ($0.25), goat cheese ($0.50), olive oil (a few cents?) = $2.50 & change.
omg I’m so hungry now – that looks wonderful! Now that the weather’s cooler, I’m definitely going to cook at home more!
Can I come over to your house to have an omelette? That looks in.cre.di.ble.

With that being said, I do enjoy a meal out once in a while for things like curry or pho
