Thanks for the mention!

You can see a list of my favorite design-related blogs (which have great tutorials) at http://www.geekinheels.com/favorite-blogs/

If you want some hands-on training, I just remembered that I used http://www.lynda.com/ to get started on Illustrator. They have videos and accompanying documents for each lesson, and it's a steal at $25 a month.

You might also want to enter my Custom Illustration Giveaway, going on right now! http://www.geekinheels.com/blog/2009/11/2/custom-illustration-giveaway.html

I don't have photoshop so I'm not sure if this is really all that helpful but I know I've seen some tutorials at webdesigndev.com. They have a photoshop category right in the middle of the page that might be helpful. Good luck!

http://creativetechs.com/training/
Creative Techs has courses in all the Adobe software. I've taken both the Illustrator and Photoshop courses. They're live webinars, and I think it's still the case that the course was free if you participated in the webinar, and it was $50 for the course download to reference at will. Currently, I only see the Photoshop course, but perhaps if you email them, they'll give you more info.
Also, I found the Illustrator for Dummies book to be really helpful.
