Quick Note About New Header (v 1.0)

by WellHeeled on December 22, 2009

Edit: I’ve made some changes to the header based on your feedback. Thanks everyone! For reference, Header v 1.0 and v 2.0 (the current header) are shown below:

BlogHeaderDec2009 300x94 Quick Note About New Header (v 1.0)

Header v 1.0

blogheaderv21 300x94 Quick Note About New Header (v 1.0)

Header v 2.0 (current)

(If you are reading this through RSS feed, please come by WellHeeledBlog.com and take a look!)

Though I didn’t have my previous header for very long, I’ve been thinking of a new blog header for a while now. Tonight, I planned to just “take a few moments” to buy some stock images, but 4 hours and countless tutorials later, it’s done. I just couldn’t wait until I show it to you guys.

So let’s just say that it’s New Header v 1.0 – I might play with a few minor tweaks but overall I am very happy with it. The look is cleaner and classier. After the New Year’s I’ll be rolling out a blog redesign (of which this header is the first step), but for now, well, here it is!

Feedback (I can take constructive criticism. ;) ) on New Header v 1.0 is most welcome.

A few changes I am considering are: (1) switch the positioning of the text and the graphic (i.e. text on the left and graphic on the right), (2) expand the cityscape background to cover the entire width of the header, (3) change the font of the “Well-Heeled Blog” part – I love the cursive but not sure if it’s difficult to read.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your thoughts!

I like it! One of my 2010 blog goals is to redesign the blog including getting a professional looking header. I'm impressed you did it yourself!

Sassy! I like it. I'm a fan of extending the cityscape (but still leaving your feet hanging off on the peach – I hope that makes sense).

Makes perfect sense! I think you'll like the v 2.0. :)

FabulouslyBroke.com December 22, 2009 at 1:17 pm

No need to move it! I like it with the image and then the text so that people can land their eyes on the image first and then see the text (reading left to right)

The cursive is not awful to read :) It's very friendly.. if you tried one of those super curly cursives I'd agree but it's clear.

If you really think it's too difficult to read, try removing the background shader so that it gives a crisp look to the text.

Or add a glow around it :)

Love it!!!!!!!!!

Thank you! That means a lot to me coming from the fabulous FB herself! :) The whole reason I started wanting a new header is because yours are so great.

I think it's quite elegant.

krystalatwork December 22, 2009 at 2:56 pm

I like the new image! Very clean and professional.

Not really a fan of the text or the drop shadow. For some reason cursive fonts really bother me because they always look fake. But that's just me. Try dafont.com for loads of cool free fonts for future use, that's where I go all the time.

Oh, and for free high res stock photos, check out http://www.sxc.hu … when you do a search the first line of images is separated and always premium (paid). But the rest of them are free and there are some really good ones!

Soo….I LOVE this new header. I was not so fond of your last header, but this header is awesome! I thought the red heels could never be topped, but this just might do it! Like you, I'm not quite sure about the cursive…other than that, everything is perfect! Nice Job!

I like your new header : )

I like the image. It's tough to say whether it should extend across the entire width without seeing it, but doing so might give you more continuity between the right and left halves.
I think changing the cursive font on Well Heeled Blog might be a good idea. It's not terrible to read, but it's not the easiest, either.

Onegirl December 22, 2009 at 3:40 pm

I like the peach and the green. The only thing I don't like is that the word Well looks like Welb, the way the cursive ends. I would change the cursive to something easier to read.

Otherwise, it's fantastic!

Reply

WellHeeled December 22, 2009 at 6:36 pm

Ah… I think it looks like "Welb" too. Off to find an easier cursive.

I also love where the image is! And the colors!

I agree that the shadow makes it a bit difficult to read, I like FB's suggestion of the glow. =)

(so really, I have added nothing here but to agree with FB)

Once of these day, I'm going to have to put up a header image.

Love the image! Would be nice if the text were more crisp (looks blurred on my monitor), but overall well done!

It's definitely cute. I think extending the cityscape might give it more oomph, but it's something you gotta play around with before deciding! I'm not a fan of cursive but this isn't too difficult to read. I definitely prefer it to the last one (much cleaner, classier), and like Carrie I never thought you could top the red heels, but I like this!

Great job!

Don@MoneyReasons.com December 23, 2009 at 10:27 am

From a guy’s perspective, I like the 2nd one with the extended cityscape design a little better. Part of the reason is that it’s less pink ;) ! Both are pretty good and an improvement over your previous design (which was pretty cool though too…) :)

With the new design, the only small issue is the white laptop is practically invisible.

The 2nd one also has a strong hint of Fabulously Broke’s influence on it.

Nice job with it! Either one is a win-win!

I love new look! However, a question: Why did you decide to use "Well Heeled Blog" as opposed to just "Well Heeled" for the header? I mean, it's obviously a blog, so calling it "Well Heeled Blog" seems a little redundant.

How evil, you're helping to fuel all those blog redesign feelings I've been having… :P

I'd love to make my own header like that, but I haven't a clue what would work for me….! I'm liking v2.0 better than 1.0, and I bet 3.0 would be pretty kick ass. ;)

Farnoosh December 23, 2009 at 10:53 pm

Actually I really like your current one. I think it's just more you and more inviting. I think both are very well-done though. :) !
By the way, your Paris post is done. Hope you check it! Thanks for the vote!

Very cool! I do think the cursive is a *tiny* bit hard to read, but that might just be because it's so small. I like the new look! And I like the text on the left, for what it's worth.
