On New Year’s Eve, I purchased a bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream Original 750ml for $15 on sale (generally goes for $21-$25).
Then boyfriend and I made spiked Spicy Chai Latte. Then I bought myself a series of tango classes. And that is how I rang in 2010.
How did you ring in the New Year? Did anyone go to a special NYE event that you had to pay for (special dinner, club event, etc.)? I’ve always wondered about the concept of paying to party.. was it worth it?

I've never 'paid to party' on NYE, as such
BF was away working so I went to the pub for a drink with friends. Then on New Year's Day we made a snap decision to book a spa room at a hotel – something I'd been wanting to do for a while.
PS – man oh man, do I love Baileys! It's my favourite drink!
since i can't be in crowds or drink alcohol because of my cancer i stayed in. my best friend came over and we ordered a pizza, painted our nails, and watched movies in our pajamas. it was actually really really fun and something we should do more often
I made a nice dinner and watched Terminator Salvation with Rambo. After a cranberry malibu drink, I was asleep by 10:30pm. I know. Exciting.
I fell asleep at 11pm! But woke up briefly at 10 minutes past midnight to say Happy New Year. Then promptly went back to sleep.
I have a spendthrift friend that use to go to parties like those. It usually concluded by having a room in a fancy hotel.
I asked him if it was worth it, and he said yes, but they (my friend and his wife) would spend over $1,000, which I thought was crazy.
Needless to say, he's now divorced, money troubles. They lived large for about 10 years before problems started hitting them hard.
I've gone to an (inexpensive, relatively) event on NYE once or twice. If you want to be out and about, it is worth it in my opinion, as almost all places have some sort of event.
But usually it is much more low key — either just T and I (this year, as we both were flying back to LA) or a house party or… whatever. NYE has so much hype it scares me.
I also hate to go out on NYE because I'm afraid of drunk drivers. And if I drink, I can't drive. And cabs are in such short supply during that night.
My hubby and I went to one of those big hotel parties once. It was in downtown SF. The whole place was too crowded to move, most people were stumbling drunk, and the lines for drinks were atrocious. Totally not worth it. We ended up leaving the party and viewing the fireworks from our room. The only fun part of the night was dinner at Boulevard before the hotel fiasco!
