However, if I was in your situation I would focus on other things that are in your control such as your hobbies, family, and friends. Also might want to look at more career opportunities or maybe finding a less desirable job in the meantime if your top picks are not available. This recession is tough, do what you need to do to survive. Send off those resumes/applications and go live your life! Follow up, of course (I kept a spreadsheet to keep track of the over 100 jobs I applied for while unemployed), but go out there and just do whatever the heck you want with your time! This can backfire, however, if you get used to the freedom - when a job offer comes calling you may feel a slight twinge of regret :-) My best advice about waiting is to try to forget that you're waiting.
